Beetle Wing Collage:
This collage was inspired by a stash of antique beetle wings I found in a trim store. I occasionally find new beetle wings for sale, but they are rare. These are real beetle wings that I've pierced with a hole to string on beaded fringe, or sewn over a fabric collage of green fabrics, beads, gems, and sequins.
I'm told these wings (actually, they are the hard shell backs of the beetles, which “open” to display their wings) are not this iridescent green color when the beetles are alive, but only turn this color when they die. I also heard in India, they used to wear live beetles as brooches by attaching a fine chain to them, and pinning them to their garments.
