"Watermelon Showgirl"
Watermelon Showgirl is cloth doll, 22" tall, with an inner wire armature. The skin is sewn from a textured knit fabric. She has a paperclay facemask covered in the same knit fabric. Glass eyes are inserted, and the teeth are sculpted of polymer clay. The facemask is attached to a stuffed fabric head.
The headdress is a turban of cotton, adorned with a Styrofoam melon slice, sequins, gems, net, and feathers. There is a spray of feathers, netting, and fabric attached to the backside.
Watermelon Showgirl was the result of my doll club's fabric challenge. We were given the green watermelon and pink print cotton fabrics, some lace and netting, ribbon and black sequins. The club does a display for one month every year at our local library, and this year all the club's challenge dolls were displayed there.
